question 2
ancillary tasks

The boldness of the poster design is one of the strogest elements of my promotional material  in that it uses the seventies kaliedoscopic pattern to frame iconography from the film, it would definitely create interest and enigma for an audience and is striking in a crowded place like a cinema foyer. I also like the play on words in the tagline . The double page article is strong because it is well targeted at the same audience as the short I produced it is creative in the visual layout,I particularly like the integrated main  image on the right hand side.
{ABC1 35+ 'art film audience' and 'student audience '16-24' } were my target audience.
Ifeel that I have reached both of my categories of target audiences in my ancillary tasks
through use of design, means of distribution and style of promotional text.
If I were to do it again I would make another layout for the article to go on a blog as I feel that the writing and the design style would work well on this platform . I would not change the poster much but I might experiment further with landscape and some more minimalist versions however overall i think that it is a strong product that represents the film well .

question 3
audience feedback

Untitled from abigail bell on Vimeo.
the above video shows the audience feedback I got from the showing of my film I gave to an audience of about 20. Most of the feedback I received was good an the criticism was constructive rather than damning so overall I feel it was successful. I also recieved feedback from followers on my blog I made for the film and on facebook where the link to it was posted.

platforms for distribution

http://vimeo.com/21151466

i intially published my film on here , vimeo is a video sharing website similar to youtube  in that is hosts user generated content, a lot of the content is more focussed on making art pieces rather than

i then blogged it on this
http://icarusproductions.tumblr.com/

To get some audience feedback and more exposure and linked it to my facebook page and one of the bands linked it to his page also.

STOPFRAME MIDPOINT OF FILm

i createdan  animation to allude the effect of going backwards in time
all of the photo's represent the years going backwards from 2011 to 1970 i put pictures of times in history sourced from the internet within eye symbols to show
this is a sample giff of the eye images

distribution of short films

whilst on social network site facebook i came across this, it was in the advertising sidebar that i assume uses a technique of

http://apps.facebook.com/aero-film-festival/
i thought it was an interesting form of distribution the 'making is connecting ' mindset working with user generated content to form quite a sophisticated yet fun thing

article planning

I'm calling the webzine/magazine for my article short sighted as a play on the fact that it would review short films , i will create it in a new age style that would appeal to a culturally aware audience though i will use a conventional layout with a twist to actually set up the article.
FLATPLAN
I wanted my article to be short and sweet, the kind you might see on an online webzine or in a hip supliment like VICE magazine
We at short sighted
feel this film is a real
breath of fresh air,
five minuites of
trippy imagary,lovely
music  and a good old
bit of ‘free love’
ideology.
RIGHT UP OUR STREET.
The tasty soundtrack by
young middlesbrough
bands ‘the filthy porters’
and ‘escapades’ both
very different and
really capture the
mishmash of eras.
Nineteen seventy gives
you that warm fuzzy
feeling in your heart
while messing with
 your head just a
little bit in its
own quirky marginally
Jeunet-esque way.
STAR CATCHUP
we caught up with
HANNAH MAY COXON
who plays ‘hannah’ in
the short movie

so hannah this is your first short
film, how did you enjoy it ?

oh i loved it it was such good
fun working with an amazing
cast and crew

what was your best bit?

probably making fires on the beach

and your worst?
trying to get to the beach !
we fell in a load of mud which
was pretty scary but also kind
of funny

what do you think of the finished
product?

i adore it its so different and
pretty!

music

focusing on music is commonly used in arthouse film as a point of interest , particularly music from independant artists , for instance the film submarine to be released has a soundtrack by alex turner of the arctic monkeys .
the bands i used with thier full permission were local middlesbrough/ stockton bands
The Escapades and The Filthy Porters

revised plotline

the narrator introduces the story via videoblog
The central protagonist of this film is trapped in a cycle of technology
she ‘can’t live ‘ without her phone and laptop and spends all her time inside on facebook and twitter. Her only community is the detached one of the online world. Her twin sister is the complete opposite; she loves to be outside with her friends and wants her sister to understand that it is better. she thinks that the computer makes her antisocial and traps her . One day when the technology girl snaps at her, she gets really angry she decides that she needs to be and she is sent back in time to 1970 and the first ever Glastonbury where a crowd of hippies show her some of the true values of community. She learns that she doesn’t need to have technology and that she misses her family the hippies get her back home via a bicycle. FREEZEFRAME
And the ‘moral’ it told by the narrator.

scene [[setting recce]]

for the film there are 4 basic settings that are involved:
- blogging , anywhere (probably bedroom)
-The girls’ bedroom
-A transitional stage
-The field/naturalistic setting that the hippies are in
-Returning home scene, street/home setting

Girls bedroom-
I want this scene to reflect the two girls characters and the binary opposites that they represent, using mise en scene might be a nice way of doing this panning across the bedroom half of which is decorated elaborately in the style of the ‘free’ sister character and bed is split down the middle to the girls side that is full of wires etc.
The setting I found for this is in my house there is a bed in the front window flanked by a wardrobe and a set of draws this will be perfect as in is relatively symmetrical and can be decorated easily .

Transitional stage we are going to use fade to black and a short animated section .

PROPS LIST

Briefly some of the props which we need for the film:

Scene 1 - computer with a web cam.
Scene 2 - binary opposites of props. really technical - i pods, phone, laptop very modern props. the other really traditional/relaxed - floral patterns bed canopy.
Scene 3 - glass and fizzing tablet.
Scene 5 - 70's costume. hippy style dresses bandannas etc.
Scene 7 - campfire and bike.
Scene 8 - computer with web cam.
